Automotive Technician
Objectives
- To prepare the students for the Automotive Service Excellence Certification Exam (ASE).
- To prepare students to become productive citizens in cooperation with business and other educational agencies.
- To develop the skills and knowledge to become a qualified auto technician.
- To develop problem solving skills through automotive diagnostic testing.
- To develop management and entrepreneurial skills.

All students are dually enrolled and will receive credit at a Louisiana Technical College System site.
After graduation, credits earned are transferable to a Louisiana Technical College site offering the Automotive Technology Program.

The automotive industry has over 800,000 openings nationwide. Average salary for technicians is over $30,000 per year.

The automotive technician course provides specialized instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles at the entry level.
Entrance Requirements
- Must be an 11th or 12th grade student with reliable transportation.
- PLAN test recommended.
- Student interest and aptitude.
- Principal's recommendation.
- Approved grade point average.
Because of the timing, only 1 credit per semester is allowed in the morning session and only 1-1/2 credits per semester is allowed in the afternoon session.
Lab fee - $10 per semester.
